This piece is intended to be played on an instrument in modified solo tuning with a C extension: C (E), B, E, A. Alternatively, the performer can lower their C extension to a Bb and read the music normally. When in this tuning, any notes indicated to be played on string IV can be read normally, but the resulting pitch will be a whole step lower relative to the rest of instrument.

Any harmonics (notated with a diamond notehead) are indicators of where the performer is meant to place their finger, not the resulting pitch of the harmonic. In the second Manifestation, notes surrounded by boxes indicate indeterminate material. The performer is encouraged to take liberty with the pacing, timbre, and dynamics of the material throughout the movement, but particularly in these moments.
